We all know that metabolism is the process by which our bodies use food for energy. The higher our metabolic rate, the more calories we burn. To lose weight we must burn more calories than we take in. So it makes sense that we would want our metabolism to be running at full speed.
So how do we boost our metabolism? Doctors and
dieticians say the best way is through exercise. Exercise reduces body fat and increases our lean muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat. So the more muscle we have, the higher our metabolic rate.
To get the most calorie burn, a combination of aerobic exercise and strength training is the way to go! Aerobic exercise speeds up metabolism for anywhere from 4 to 8 hours after the session has ended. Examples of aerobic exercise are of course, walking, swimming, running, jumping rope and cycling.
Working out in the morning will keep your metabolism fired up throughout the day. But exercising anytime that you can fit it in will help to burn that fat away.
There are other ways to help boost metabolism as well. Such as
Metabolism Boosters and foods such as peppers,
salsa, mustard, apple cider vinegar etc.
People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains.
As you age your metabolism tends to slow down, and
your body doesn't burn as many calories as it did
when you were younger. The days of having
cheeseburgers for breakfast, lunch and dinner are
now long gone and finding time to go to the gym can
be a hassle between work and kids.
Metabolism boosters
can be that added nudge to get you over the hump and
help you start to lose some of that unwanted weight.
